AMIGOS' GATHERINGS
For the past several years there has been gatherings in the Fall and Spring attended by between twenty and forty Amigos, mostly from the SF Bay Area. The Amigos' Board of Directors meeting is held at each of these gatherings. Election of officers and board members takes place every other year. The principal business of the meeting is a report on the Fr. Joe O'Looney Scholarship Program. The report includes a review of each student's progress, the oversight of the Program, and its continued funding.
The Fall gathering is usually held at the home of an Amigo couple.
George and Gayle Mills hosted the well-attended gathering in the Fall of 2019 which included an early 99th birthday party for Flora Mancebo.
The highlight of the Fall 2018 gathering, hosted by Mike and Lupe Miller, was a tribute to Nacho and Coletta Estrella. four of the Estrella's children were present to share in the tribute to their parents.
The Spring gathering for several years has been held at the beginning of May at the Villa Maria del Mar retreat house overlooking the ocean in Santa Cruz. It is a three-day, two-night gathering which allows for more in-depth conversations, sharing, and discussion of current social issues. [the May 2020 and 2021 gathering had to be cancelled due to the shelter-in-place orders related to the corona virus pandemic].
