AMIGOS ANONYMOUS THEME SONG FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
(to be sung to the tune of "Jamaica Farewell")
By Mike McKenna and his Song Writers Collaborative

Here we are an aging crew
                    Assorted ailments and backaches, too
We move too slow to catch the bus
                    We’re the Amigos Anonymous

CHORUS:       BUT WE’RE GLAD TO SAY WE’RE HERE TODAY
HARD OF HEARING AND HAIR TURNED GRAY
THE ONLY WAY THAT WE’LL NOW GO
IS ON A PLEASURE CRUISE TO MEXICO

Bears and Broncos and Dons did mingle
                    With Senoritas from Santo Domingo
Gaels and Fraels from Holy Names
Soon shuffling geezers and nursing home dames

We went down there without much dough
With all the zeal that we could show
We ate strange foods, spicey local fare,
Today it’s Mylanta in an easy chair                    REFRAIN

We worked without tire, one and all
Now all we do is gulp Geritol
We often bent to lend a helping hand
But soon we’ll need help getting up to stand

We're ready to slow down and sit in the sun
‘Cause our leisure years have just begun
Though our bodies feel like they’re falling apart
We’re glad, at least, to have a ticking heart                REFRAIN

We haven’t forgotten the debt we owe
                    We send donations to Mexico
To help young students fulfill their dream
While we nurse arthritis with Icy Hot cream.

Now that we are 60 plus
It’s time for all, without a fuss,
To thank our Padre, Father Joe,
And all who helped us grow in Mexico

AND WE’RE GLAD TO SAY WE’RE HERE TODAY
HARD OF HEARING AND HAIR TURNED GRAY
THE ONLY WAY THAT WE’LL NOW GO
IS ON A PLEASURE CRUISE TO MEXICO.

(composed by Mike McKenna with help from Lupe Miller, April 2006)
